Frida Viktor - making a difference as a wastewater engineer

Frida is not only a wastewater engineer at DHI but also a member of Young Water Professionals Denmark (YWPDK), where DHI is a growth partner to support the development of young professionals in the Danish water sector.

Hi Frida, tell us about yourself!

My educational background is as a chemical engineer and as part of my education, I needed to have an internship, and here my journey at DHI began approximately three years ago. After my internship, I became a student assistant, and now here I am working full-time as a wastewater engineer. In my spare time, I enjoy being in nature, travelling, cooking and knitting/crocheting. For Christmas, I crocheted the Christmas tree decorations.

What got you interested in wastewater engineering and what motivates you to do what you do?

I believe it is important to protect our water environments, and I think wastewater engineering is a good way to contribute to the well-being of our water bodies. I find it interesting how we can optimise wastewater treatment plants through modelling and reduce environmentally harmful substances in the water bodies. I’m motivated to work within a field that is in constant development – it gives me the opportunity to make a difference.

You’re a member of Young Water Professionals Denmark which supports the Danish water sector with its many initiatives that include global networking, knowledge sharing, skills development and more. What have you gained from being a member of this community?

I have gained a broader network of young people who are also passionate about water. I find great value in exchanging experiences with like-minded professionals at similar career stages.

DHI is a growth partner that ensures the long-term stability of the network and makes regional and national activities possible. The regional activities range from technical site visits to more casual gatherings. As a national activity, YWPDK has a conference every year, where we meet for technical presentations and workshops. It is a nice way to connect with new people on a professional and social level.

What do you enjoy most about being at DHI?

What I enjoy most about being at DHI is the diversity of projects. Each day presents new challenges that keep my work interesting and enable me to continuously learn and grow.
