DHI hosts seminar on sustainable water for PtX

DHI recently hosted a seminar on sustainable water use for Power-to-X (PtX) together with Danish Export Association.

The event took place at DHI headquarters in Hørsholm, and participants came from both industry organisations, utilities, research institutions, public authorities and private companies.

The day started with a tour of DHI’s renowned hydraulic test facilities, where DHI is currently testing the design of tomorrow’s energy islands and floating wind turbine foundations. After the tour, Mette Vestergaard, CEO of DHI, opened the seminar with a brief introduction of DHI and our work in supporting the green transition in the energy sector.

The agenda included presentations from experts from NIRAS, DANVA, Alfa-Laval, the Danish Energy Agency and the Danish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to name a few. From DHI, Thor Danielsen, Head of Wastewater Treatment, presented DHI’s perspectives on using wastewater for PtX.

Talks covered a wide range of topics from strategic site positioning, water qualities and regulations and, not least, sustainable water management. There was overall consensus that there is a need for demonstration projects to assess and develop technologies and for research projects to estimate long-term impact. Speakers from research institutions encouraged the audience to reach out to them with ideas for collaboration on research and demonstration projects based on the needs foreseen by the industry.

The many questions from the audience showed that there is increasing focus and interest on the challenges and opportunities from PtX in the water sector as a whole. And DHI is positioned and ready to support this important development in the green transition.
